From promised land to pariah
It was many years in the making
In colony and forged capital
And many lives for the taking

Thirty years of progress
Thirty years of peace
Mountains and molehills
And never-ending grief

This one, not that one
The quota game we play
To balance the diversity
To realign the pain

Brother and brother
Our race no longer key
Blended and bonded
Redefining our ethnicity

Hope against hope
With opportunity to spare
We’re climbing out of debt
Climbing out of despair

South Africa, South Africa
Two economies divided
We’re open for business
But just not reminded

The poverty’s natural
The inflation too
Our unemployment’s rampant
It’s called stagflation, bru

The people are still dying
Our homes are not yet safe
While hungry children are crying
Our lands are in question’s fate

Our beautiful country
The rainbow hue
Savaged and bleeding
Controlled for a few

Our nation in tatters
Lies dying in the mud
With only Madiba’s tears
To wash away the blood.
