Although the ANC was founded in 1912, what many of us may have forgotten is that it has only been the ruling party since it formed the government of South Africa in 1994. In real terms, it is still in its infancy in respect of running a country and conducting itself accordingly. As a result […]

Rob Andrew opens his mouth to change feet
I am in total disagreement with the New Zealand press who were going on and on about how crap England were at Eden Park on Saturday. They were not crap! If they train much harder this week, get their tactics right and get Rob Andrew to stop whingeing we can upgrade that performance to crap. […]
South Africa and China key to Zimbabwean outcome
Gordon Brown has styled the Zimbabwean government as a “criminal cabal“, demanded that it accept international monitors and called for sanctions if President Robert Mugabe is not removed after the run-off. I could go on listing those who now condemn the president and his party, or simply refer you to Google or any other search […]
Golf: You’re never out of the Woods
On Saturday I shot a 62 at Glendower, playing immaculate golf, until those Nazi bastards told me it was getting too late, and I could only play the second hole on Sunday. I mean, what is the point of trying to finetune your game if the dogs only let you play the first hole? You […]
Terre’Blanche and the Afrikaner homeland
AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche, addressing the Vryheid Agricultural Union last Thursday, called on the ANC to grant the Afrikaners a homeland. “We gave blacks their homelands. Why don’t the ANC do the same for us?” Sort of a little laager on the prairie — spare me. I’d like to call on the ANC on behalf […]
Is South Africa ready for the Castle Doctrine?
One of my readers whom I shall call JS, in case he is nervous of being stalked, wrote in to tell me about an English common law principle which is finding more and more application in the United States of America. In essence the “Castle Doctrine” designates certain areas such as your home, car or […]
Springboks explode Total Rugby onto the world stage
Springboks (17)37, Wales (14)21 The purists will scream foul, Wales redemption, but this was champagne rugby of the total variety. The Springbok class of 2008 taking rugby where South African soccer had dared not go before, unleashing the incredible ball skills and raw talents of this country. 1970s and Holland manager Rinus Michels introduced the […]
Zimbabwe: Mugabe’s second war of liberation
When Robert Mugabe and the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU, later ZANU-PF) rose up against white minority rule in the 1960s and 1970s, they carried the backing of the majority of Zimbabweans and the world community. ZANU-PF and its class of 2008 carry the endorsement of neither. Where once they were the bearers of hope […]
Luiz Felipe Scolari: Chelsea’s shpeshialsh onesh
Everyone’s always asking me where the name Trapido comes from. It is in fact Portugese in origin, and we trace our ancestory back to Porto a few centuries ago. Even though none of us actually speak the lingo, it does not prevent my sons and I from supporting Portugal against everyone but Bafana Bafana. Nothing […]
Rooney nuptials: Wedding of the century or mindless self-indulgence?
As a big fan of the British royal family with all its pomp and ceremony, I was naturally drawn to the “wedding of the century”, that of Wayne and Coleen Rooney. It’s the Italian Riviera, yachts and castle time as football upstages Hollywood with all the glitz and glamour of the fare. Sportsmen and women […]
What if Robert Mugabe was white?
I want you to close your eyes and imagine for a moment that Zimbabwe was being ruled by Robert Mugabe, the duly elected white, rather than black, president. Everything else must remain exactly the same as it is right now. The overwhelming majority of Zimbabwe’s population remains black, the murder and torture continues, the destroyed […]
Liquid Zimbabwe
Archbishop Desmond Tutu has called on England cricketers to boycott Zimbabwe, on Robert Mugabe to resign and on the United Nations to send in peacekeepers for the presidential run-off. South Africa’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate is in no mood to allow the violence that is destabilising the region to go on unchallenged. Captain Courageous, never […]
