I’ve been hearing a lot of trash talk around our nation’s local airlines lately, and while I think most of it is probably well-deserved, I’d like to hear your opinions.
So let’s have us an informal poll.
I’m going to list the airlines up for discussion, along with what I perceive as their pros and cons. You can agree, disagree, or add to the list, and we’ll see who comes up trumps.
SAA
Feels like a real airline (They give you drinks! And food!)
Usually leaves on time
Comfy chairs but
The food tastes like reheated cardboard
They’re more expensive
kulula.com
Very amusing safety instructions
Fairly dependable
Good branding, in general but
They seem to be getting more expensive than the other “budget” airlines
They charge airport tax on top of flights
Are the spaces between the seats getting smaller?
Mango
Consistently cheaper flights
Fair choice of times to fly but
I’ve been hearing horror stories about delays, from four to 11 hours
All these horror stories are not properly compensated for, and apparently Mango isn’t apologetic at all
1time
Occasionally cheaper flights but
I’ve only flown them once, and the flights are sporadically more expensive, so I haven’t returned much. Anyone else have an opinion on them?
To be honest, it’s slim pickings, isn’t it?
What annoys me the most is when they advertise crazy cheap flights (Mango and kulula.com both do this) and then when you try to find them, it’s actually only on one day for one flight, and it’s sold out.
