I was lucky enough to find an über-cool website the other day, which in turn led me on to a whole discovery path of other unexpectedly cool websites. And all South African!
Isn’t the internet funny that way? It’s almost like tapping into a vein — once you find one site that fascinates you, there’s a thread of common interest that runs through a line of websites. And if that common interest interests you, what a treat!
Here are a couple of my new discoveries:
At last! Someone is taking the gobbledygook out of building websites. At Tank (www.withtank.com), they’ve simplified the website process in seemingly ingenious ways. Beautifully written (it reads like a conversation) and with some pretty impressive promises, I like them already. In a nutshell? “We believe your website should be simpler. We believe it can be built quicker. And the entire process can be more enjoyable. We all have better things to do, don’t we?” Nice.
Rebound Books (www.reboundbooks.co.za) finds beautiful, yet neglected, old hardcover books and rebinds them with a new soul (of environmentally friendly paper). The perfect solution for anyone who buys books for the cover, not the innards, this lets you create a book beautiful enough to be worthy of the cover! And all in your own words!
“Never before have tea parties been as inspired, as pretty, and above all as sweet …” How could I not love a website that opens with a line like this?! La Fete (www.lafete.co.za) is a tea-party catering company. I love it! Anything that encourages tea parties gets the nod from me.
Little Blank Dress (www.littleblankdress.co.za) deals with another cause close to my heart — finding the perfect party dress. Two Cape Town fashionistas have made it their quest to gather together amazing dresses and find their rightful owners. And they hold parties to do it! Matchmaking taken to a new level, perhaps?
Anyone else want to throw in a local innovative website?
