If it turns out that Springbok coach Peter de Villiers did get involved with a lady in a car park, which is being vehemently denied, then that is his own business, as far as I am concerned. Whatever sanctions need to be applied, if there is any merit in it, must come from his wife […]

Would Zuma and Mbeki factions entertain a compromise candidate?
When the ANC held its 52nd national conference at Polokwane, concerns were expressed that should Jacob Zuma be elected as party president, it might well leave national President Thabo Mbeki as a lame duck for the balance of his term. As it turned out, the ANC became divided into two centres of power — the […]
Big Brother Africa 3: who chose our genius?
Forget an enquiry into the Olympics, the Para-Olympics or even the arms deal, the people who need to face up to an oversight committee and then a firing squad, are the wenners who select our Big Brother Africa contestants. Wherever they found this genius should be fenced off just in case the personality disorder is […]
Palin and the dawning of the age of the super vice-president
As many of you may be aware the Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain has had four bouts of cancer and is 72 years of age, which, if he is successful, would make him the oldest first-term president in US history. With this in mind the possibility of Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, following […]
Newcastle insanity with mystery surrounding Keegan departure
Newcastle United were supposed to have parted company with Kevin Keegan if press reports confirming his departure yesterday were to be believed. They suggested that after showdown talks with owner Mike Ashley the manager was shown the door. Needless to say this occasioned a Geordie backlash with fans protesting at St James Park earlier today. […]
ANC will be taken to the brink by revenge politics and manipulation
“For the past nine months we seem to have been held collectively hostage to the crude politics of revenge and manipulation. Our political discourse has been crude and divisive, not only from the ANCYL but also from the alliance partners. The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist Party’s (SACP’s) […]
Manchester City join billionaires boys’ club
Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, having completed their acquisition of Manchester City yesterday, moved immediately to upstage City’s local rivals Manchester United by bidding in excess of 30m UKP for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov. By the time you read this article you will know whether City or United (more likely) have sealed […]
Forget Biden, it’s a Palin drone with an ANC twist
The left wing of the blogosphere and the liberal media have gone tilt at the nomination of Sarah Palin as presumptive vice-presidential nominee. Hordes of Democratic investigators and journalists are pouring into Alaska in the hope of digging up any dirt on the former beauty queen turned politician. If panic is a sign that Senator […]
YCL suggestion to ANC would be tantamount to a bloodless coup
If the ANC were ever to contemplate handing over two-thirds of its seats in parliament or in the provincial legislatures to the SACP and Cosatu it would be tantamount to a bloodless coup. “THE Young Communist League called on the African National Congress (ANC) yesterday to give up two-thirds of its seats in parliament and […]
Forget about sardines and trawlers; it’s about donkeys and Jesus
I haven’t laughed as loudly, or for as long, as I did on Sunday morning when I read Clinton van der Berg’s “Twakkie’s wit and wisdom”. It’s a collection of Peter de Villiers’s quotes that are finding a home not only here in South Africa but also wherever rugby is played the world over. If […]
Palin will reopen the great gender and race debates
There can be no doubting the fact that Republican presumptive nominee Senator John McCain’s selection of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate owes a lot to the decision of Democratic nominee Senator Barrack Obama’s decision not to invite Senator Hillary Clinton to the party. If Denver showed anything, it was that there is […]
Stop bitching about crime; send for the submarines
Why is it that every time the government does something positive to ensure our safety and security, you lot start moaning and bitching about crime, schools, hospitals and all the other unnecessary crap that we don’t need? I mean what is the point of their making the effort if this is the thanks they’re going […]
