Way back in April I did an article on the flu pandemic which broke out in 1918 and then went on to decimate this planet in numbers that not even World War II could match. My point at the time being that I found it strange that every pupil learns about World War I in school yet ask them about a disaster that dwarfed the casualties of the “Great War” and chances are they would not even have heard of it.
About 50 million to 100 million people died of a flu — think about that.
In 1968 the small matter of Hong Kong flu wiped out another million worldwide.
Now we are being told by the World Health Organisation that there is a flu made up of human, avian and swine viruses which they feel obliged to term a pandemic but not to worry as it most likely will turn out to be mild.
Oh, unless it mutates then we’re all up shit street without a paddle — but don’t panic because so far it hasn’t.
Besides they’ve got Tamiflu and other antibiotics which will put this little windgat in its place.
So no cause to panic unless you listen to some of those morons with Phds on their Phds who’ve studied viruses their whole lives and are considered the wunderkinders on this stuff who don’t seem as convinced as the world’s government doctors that it’s nothing really.
They look extremely concerned every time they’re interviewed.
Mind you I don’t understand the medical terms but I do catch bits of it like : “ … hmmm … of course … blah blah blah Armageddon … yak yak yak … leaving only plankton and primordial slime …”
That gets you looking for the symptoms and no messing about.
Every country you can think of is reporting deaths from swine flu but not to panic in each case there’s an underlying health problem. Next day — Britain has first deaths from healthy patients. So no joy there.
Of course! Tamiflu — where can I get that?
Two days later — first swine flu cases resistant to Tamiflu.
Bastards!
Guys, in Britain they are expecting 100 000 cases per day in August.
Africa, relatively free a couple of weeks back, is catching up on the rest of the world and fast. Every day more and more African countries are joining the pandemic.
Can we panic yet?
