OK, so there’s no regular pay cheque; that’s pretty hard to deny.
And there are no perks, like a free phone and internet connection, and endless supplies of tea and milk.
BUT (and this is a big but), there are many, many things to love about freelancing …
Although I’m pretty disciplined and like to be up and showered and dressed and working by around 8.30am, there are days (such as today) when it’s a little cold and drippy outside, and I just want to stay in my pyjamas. No problem!
I can say no to work I don’t want to do.
If I feel the irresistible urge to watch a movie in the middle of the day, I can.
I don’t have to dodge traffic on my way to work (there is no way to work).
I have time to take on cool side projects that won’t necessarily make much money but will make my life more interesting.
I get to work at an old wooden school desk.
I spend my days doing things I love. That’s really what it boils down to.
