In light of the fact (no pun intended) that Eskom switched my power back on just in time for my favourite TV show of the week, here are a few of the best TV shows ever made (according to me). Feel free to add your own:

  • Seinfeld. Top of my list and one of the only TV series I can watch on repeat (repeatedly) and not get sick of. In fact, some episodes still make me laugh out loud, despite the fact that I’ve seen them probably 20 times each. A friend and I used to go out dancing and then come home with sore feet and watch Seinfeld and drink tea. Anyone remember the Soup Nazi?
  • The New Adventures of Old Christine. The only show I religiously watch every week, partly because it has Elaine from Seinfeld as the lead, and she’s one of my heroes. And because it is hilarious, and honest, and true, and a wee bit ridiculous.
  • Boston Legal. It nursed me through recovering from my diabetes scare, and was the only thing that could make me laugh when I felt so ill. Seriously one of the best written, wittiest and most pertinent shows out, as far as I’m concerned. And who doesn’t love Denny Crane?
  • Desperate Housewives. I know, I know, how clichéd! Everyone loves Desperate Housewives. But that’s because it’s damn good TV. Great acting, great storytelling and just dark enough to get you hooked. And full of beautiful people.
  • Arrested Development. It’s so ridiculous (and yet so plausible) that you just have to love it. Zany characters, fantastic script and a whole lot of family drama. Brilliant!

That’s my top five. What about you?
