Mamelodi sundowns must take the Telkom knockout cup as their chance at redeeming themselves after an embarassing start to this season.
Coach Neeskens knows very well how important it is for him to guide his charges to a Telkom knockout cup victory, winning this cup might help him to stay on as the brazilians coach and maybe give him a chance to finish what he has started, which is to take sundowns to the top of South African football.
Sundowns have the players who can go on to lift this trophy, but the fact that they are rooted at the bottom of the log at the moment has dented the players and the supporters confidence, Johan Neeskens must make sure that his team is fired up for the semi final match against their neighbours Supersport united. It is not going to be an easy task, but both the coach and his players know that they need to rise to the occasion. They need to win this tournament to win back the support and confidence of their supporters who have lost hope and became very restless due to the team’s poor perfomance.
The team has not being entirely poor, they play some good football and create a lot of chances, but their lack of killer instinct upfront and poor defensive perfomances are letting them down. Neeskens will be hoping for an improvement in these two areas, and a bit of luck.
This is his chance at redemption, bringing some silverware to Chloorkop will take a lot of pressure off him and his players, and they can start focusing on moving up the log table, a team of sundowns calibre doesn’t belong at the bottom of the log.
