The World Cup has arrived and though many journalists have suggested who might win or who could win, damnit, someone has to take that first step.

So, the time has come to gaze into the crystal ball and predict who is going to win the first ever World Cup on African soil.

For those who don’t have a super memory (including myself), here is a quick rehash of the groups and who will progress from each group:

Group A:

Us (Come on boys!), Mexico, France and Uruguay -> SA (vuvuzela power) and Uruguay (too un-French)

Note: Do I think we can do it? Yes. Do I think France is going to implode, especially since they hate their coach? Yes. This group is tougher to call then Group G.

Group B:

Argentina, Greece, Nigeria and South Korea -> Argentina (too Messi) and … tricky … South Korea (they will run all day long)

Group C:

Algeria, England, USA and Slovenia-> The Poms (Rooney … full stop) and the Yanks (Confed Cup V2.0)

Group D:

Australia, Ghana, Germany and Serbia -> Ze Germans (too classy) and Serbia (too tight at the back)

Group E:

Cameroon, Denmark, Netherlands and Japan -> The Dutch (I have R100 riding on them at 11/1) and the Danish (too experienced as Cameroon are too old)

Group F:

Italy, New Zealand, Paraguay and Slovenia -> Italy (they should dominate this group) and Paraguay (European-based players for the win)

Group G:

Brazil, Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal -> Brazil (samba power) and Portugal (Ronaldo power)

Group H:

Spain, Chile, Honduras and Switzerland -> Spain (too awesome) and Switzerland (too organised)

After that meticulous sorting, the following teams are left in the Round of 16:

SA, Uruguay, Argentina, England, USA, South Korea, Germany, Serbia, Holland, Denmark, Italy, Paraguay, Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

Quarter-finalists (and yes I have looked at the draw and am unashamedly positive):

Netherlands vs Brazil -> Netherlands

South Africa (yes, I know) vs England -> England

Argentina vs Germany -> Argentina

Spain vs Italy -> Spain

With this scientific approach now reaching its climax, it is semi-final time!

Netherlands vs England -> Netherlands

Spain vs Argentina -> Spain

… and the moment we are all waiting for:

Spain vs Netherlands -> Spain

There you go! Apart from being patriotic, this is the closest thing you will see to the future over the following month. I will lose my R100 but the Dutch will be the surprise package of this tournament. If they lose to Brazil, it will be a Brazil-Spain final on the off chance (really?) that I’m wrong.

I’ve had my fun. What do you guys think?
