“I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world…”

Louis Armstrong’s sweet song helps us reflect on what a beautiful planet we’ve been blessed with. However, we need to actively take care of it to prevent the downfall of our glorious earth.  One of the ways we can ensure that the planet continues to be magnificent, is by deciding to reduce motor vehicle use for transport. This can include alternative forms of transport, such as walking, cycling, being part of a lift club, or using public transport.

I have decided to cycle to work as much as possible and only use my motor vehicle when I really have to.  This began at the end of 2009, and I will continue into 2010.  Many are doing the same, and I’ve noticed that the roads are populated with people walking and cycling to work and school. Nevertheless, more of us can make our minds to join the drive for a cleaner earth and gain from the numerous benefits that decision can provide.  Some of these benefits include reduction in stress, depression, reduced risk of chronic diseases of lifestyle, decreased risk of heart disease, reduced transport costs, and very importantly, a decreased toll on the planet.

So, let’s reap from the benefits and decide to make ‘greener’ choices in 2010.
