As the president of the South African Rugby Legends Association I wish to express our unconditional support for Brian Mujati on his test debut against Wales in Bloemfontein. Brian is a young man who has played like a star and is a firm favourite of the Stormers fans. We wish him everything of the best for his big day.
This does not for a minute take away from the situation that Tienie Martin and his family currently find themselves in. I have spoken to SARLA CEO John Allan and we will be putting together an urgent plan of action to set up a fund to assist them. As a number of rugby players will testify, SARLA does not turn a deaf ear to the problems that they experience during or after their career is over.
SARLA and other rugby legends worldwide work to improve the conditions of not only rugby players but various other groups within South Africa and elsewhere.
We have already had 35 000 underprivileged children through coaching clinics run by former Springboks.
Next week I will be outlining our Legacy Parks which will be set up right throughout South Africa in order to help the country’s street children.
