Wian du Preez 7 — Good, solid if unspectacular debut. Welcome onboard son. Good to have a sound alternative to Beast.

Adriaan Strauss 7 — Again. Solid, no fireworks, but not much wrong either. Also handy to have when Bismarck needs a rest. They are doing some seriously good work in the Free State with their front-rowers.

John Smit 7 — One of his best showings this year in my view. Even better when moved to hooker. Nice little selection/positional poser for the coaching staff there.

Bakkies 7 — Far, far better performance than against France. Still not his best though.

Andries Bekker 7 — Solid at lineouts if not quite dominant. A highlight on this tour has been his improvement in the loose.

Heinrich Brussow 8 — Brilliant again. SA’s find of the year? He brings a different and effective dimension to our loose forward play.

Danie Rossouw 6 — Mr Versatile didn’t have the most effective outing. Somewhat disappointing really. But oh that offload!

Ryan Kankowski 4 — Started off strongly. That run showed his class in open play. But as the match wore on he disappeared. He needs to work on his tight game next season.

Fourie du Preez 7 — Better showing. Solid and even, brilliant in flashes. Made those flashes count though.

Morne Steyn 5 — Seems to suffer when his kicking game is not on song as he doesn’t offer much more besides that. Was not as effective as he could have been.

Adi Jacobs 6 — Disappointing. Started off well but drifted in and out of the match as it progressed. He and Jaque Fourie do not seem to be gelling quickly enough.

Jaque Fourie 8 — Much better showing than in France. Great finishing for his try. His support of his inside centre needs to improve though. He could make many more line-breaks running off Adi’s shoulder.

Bryan Habana 7 — Busy and effective in equal measure. Point deducted for that ‘tache though. I’m all for following the leader, but let’s let PdV own the ‘tache area.

JP Pietersen 5 — Not much came his way really. Anonymous game.

Zane Kirchner 6 — Ordinary. Not bad, but not much good either. With Conrad Jantjes returning next year and Frans Steyn likely to return in time for the 2011 World Cup, he really needs to be making more of this extended run.

Subs

BJ Botha 7 — Made a difference when he came on. Welcome back, now please return to the Sharks so we can pick you more often.

Beast Mtawarira 7 — Played like the Beast we have come to know and love.

Victor Matfield — Good in the air. Okay in the loose. Needs a break. Which makes his Baabaas call-up perplexing.

Jean Deysel — Strong, dominant debut. The SA loose forward factory pops out another one.

Frans Hougaard — Not on the field long enough. Looked more confident than against Saracens though.

Ruan Pienaar — Less nervy performance, but not enough time to make a case.

Wynand Olivier — Finished his try well. Didn’t do much to advance his cause after the midweek disappointments.
