Blackberry, or officially RIM, has been on a rather downward spiral since the rapid growth of Android and the steady market share of iOS. You have to still consider that they are a good manufacturer and in many ways could actually leap back from the pits.

What’s important to notice about RIM verses Nokia for example is that RIM is actively trying to come back whereas Nokia just remained stubborn and eventually had no choice but to accept the Microsoft offer.

RIM has committed to having seven new devices before the end of the year and the new version of BlackBerry OS, that is version 7, promises to bring BlackBerry back in line.

On a personal level, BlackBerry phones are still seen as the business focused mobile device, yet with BBM they have targeted a younger audience. Their next step needs to be targeting the group of people that are in between. Simply put: it is to get the iOS and Android lovers to start seeing that BlackBerry does have that smartphone capability.

Key points to note:

  1. If the BlackBerry devices can fully support Android applications, this will be a huge favour to RIM.
  2. If integration of BBM to other operating systems takes place, it would mean RIM would start to regain its market share.
