The winds of change are sweeping in their full might across America. From west to east, from south to north; from the curvaceous peaks of California to the heightening Allegheny Mountain ranges of Pennsylvania; from desert dunes of Texas to lakes and rivers of North Dakota — the soul of America reaches out for change. Black and white America, Hispanic and Jewish America now see the Promised Land!

America is speaking in a much more deafening voice than before and summons Barack Obama, as the uniting force, to fulfil the dream of Dr Martin Luther King; a dream that his children and their children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Barack Obama is dispensing hope to America which is greatly depressed by the Bush administration. In the land where the white man was the slave master and the black man reduced to the humiliating indignities of slavery, a black man has on his hands the magnitude and difficulty of the trust to which the voice of America is calling him.

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent, there can be no denial of the unparalleled unanimity and exuberance in the great assemblage of communities and interests brought about by the running of Barack Obama for President of the United States of America. America is standing at the crossroads of history and justly inspiring hope to other nations instead of terror. This son of the soil has the support of Africa to steer with safety the vessel in which Americans and all of us are embarked amidst the conflicting elements of a troubled world.

Unfortunately, here in South African, we cannot with the same vigour and exuberance express delight at the prospect of change that awaits us. We deserve better!
