Christina Scott is Africa news editor of the open-source Science and Development Network and mentors reporters across the continent in a programme run by the World Federation of Science Journalists. She is a survivor of early-morning SABC wake-up calls for both Morning Live television and current affairs programmes at SAfm radio. She writes and edits books, won the inaugural prize for popularising science in Africa in 2007 and is frequently the only sober person at the Rat & Parrot pub in Grahamstown during SciFest because her post-hepatitis liver doesn't do anything stronger than caffeine. She is as tall as that British Queen, Victoria, but has no empire.
