To be honest, when I first heard that the SA Blog Awards had a ceremony, I wanted to go mainly to see what bloggers look like.

I blog, yes, but I don’t think I’m a Blogger (with a capital B). I don’t know about widgets and page views, and I don’t have ads and rankings. Actually, I probably do have rankings, but I don’t know where they are or how to find them.

Now it turns out that the SA Blog Awards are actually quite a do! There’s a waiting list! Yip, so many people want to come that there’s a waiting list. I’m impressed. Any event that can get more people than they need to attend (in Cape Town) is doing something right.

I don’t quite know what to expect (I’m fairly new to this whole blogging world, only started in August last year), but in my head it will be a tamed-down version of the Oscars, with less flashy dresses and tuxedos, more chicken wings and beer, and some truly moving acceptance speeches.

As you may or may not know, Thought Leader has been nominated, as has my personal blog (let me just throw the link in again in case you haven’t picked up on it one million times already — www.blog.bridgetmcnulty.com), so I have a vested interest in the proceedings.

That said, I don’t think I’ll be throwing empty (or full) wine glasses at any of my competitors in a fit of rage should I not win the trophy. Unless it actually is like the Oscars and made of gold.

The blogging Oscars? We’ll just have to see …
