So, in honour of my number-one teenage-boy crush, here are a few of my favourite movie stars (only men today, I’m afraid, but all you manly men out there — feel free to add in the female quotient):
Jake Gyllenhaal. Yip, Heath’s lover from Brokeback Mountain. And also the troubled but loveable lead of Donnie Darko. Who can resist his tousled hair and interesting movie choices?
Philip Seymour Hoffman. I haven’t had too many fantasies about this one, but he is a fantastic actor. I’ll watch a film just because he’s in it and I love how he’s reinvented himself from chubby co-star to leading man with integrity.
Ethan Hawke. It’s true, he’s starting to look a little craggy. But he was in Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (two of my all-time favourite movies) and he has such restrained passion. I feel like we could be friends in real life.
Rupert Everett. I was devastated when I found out he was gay. What a loss to adoring female fans everywhere! But I still think he’s a splendid actor, and I love the way he does wry wit almost effortlessly.
And who can resist Johnny Depp? Loveable rogue, possibly slightly crazy, but fascinating and beautiful. I’ll have him at my dinner table any night. And I admire that he has made some unconventional (to say the least) choices in his career. And he was Edward Scissorhands. Enough said.
