… I was mildly to moderately infatuated with him.

So, in honour of my number-one teenage-boy crush, here are a few of my favourite movie stars (only men today, I’m afraid, but all you manly men out there — feel free to add in the female quotient):

  • Jake Gyllenhaal. Yip, Heath’s lover from Brokeback Mountain. And also the troubled but loveable lead of Donnie Darko. Who can resist his tousled hair and interesting movie choices?
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman. I haven’t had too many fantasies about this one, but he is a fantastic actor. I’ll watch a film just because he’s in it and I love how he’s reinvented himself from chubby co-star to leading man with integrity.
  • Ethan Hawke. It’s true, he’s starting to look a little craggy. But he was in Before Sunrise and Before Sunset (two of my all-time favourite movies) and he has such restrained passion. I feel like we could be friends in real life.
  • Rupert Everett. I was devastated when I found out he was gay. What a loss to adoring female fans everywhere! But I still think he’s a splendid actor, and I love the way he does wry wit almost effortlessly.
  • And who can resist Johnny Depp? Loveable rogue, possibly slightly crazy, but fascinating and beautiful. I’ll have him at my dinner table any night. And I admire that he has made some unconventional (to say the least) choices in his career. And he was Edward Scissorhands. Enough said.
